There is always something that goes wrong.

No matter how well you prepare.

However, what really matters, it’s how you react to it and make the best of the new situation.

And there is no one better to talk about this than Laura Brown

Laura and I are friend, and we go way to back to our time at the Institut Français de la Mode

And from day 1, I have noticed her charisma and her capacity to lead people.

Along the year, she has been able to do so, in a large diversity of environment

Sometimes inside well-known companies, like the Parisian dept store: Le Printemps

But sometimes, in more entrepreneurial projets: like Ethipop, the first Parisian incubator / pop up store dedicated to brands with a deep focus on sustainability. And that was when nobody was talking about it

I wanted to take this moment to chat with Laura, because she is a practitioner. She is constantly working to become the best version of herself, to become the best leader possible, and also to transmit her knowledge to others through her books.

In this episode, you will learn about :

How to develop your leadership style

How to leverage uniqueness in people in order to built high performance teams

The ingredient to advance inside a company without compromising your values

The power of journaling to obtain clarity of thought

How to choose the battle worth fighting for

I also invite you to connect with Laura on LinkedIn and to go discover her first two books: “Branded”, which tells her journey in the fashion industry and “un jour j’irais en Afrique”, which is translate, One day I will go to Africa, a more personal book about self discovery.

If you are new to this podcast, let me tell you what we trying to built in this community.

With more than 10 years of experience in the fashion and luxury industry, here in Paris, France. And thanks to my large diversity of positions, from retail, wholesale, product development, or Fashion editor, I have acquired an insider view of what it takes to succeed in groupe like LVMH, Kering or Chanel but also in fashion tech startup or small designer brands.

And with this podcast, my role is to help you DESIGN a SUCCESSFUL LIFE and CAREER in one of the most competitive industry on the planet. For that reason, I interview each week fashion professionals at DIFFERENT STAGES of their career, in order to decode their best PRACTICES, TACTICS and STRATEGIES.

In this season, while a majority of my guest are french, we are gonna continue to travel, and get perspective from professionals from all around the world. Some of them come from Mexico, China or even Belgium and the Netherlands.

What they all have in common is their passion for this industry, the desire to find their way in and the will to make it better.

In this season, we are going to learn about:

How to make it as women in fashion tech companies

What does it mean to really work in sustainability

Why personal finance is key to design a successful life and career

I could continue on because the list is long.

Personally this second season gave me confirmation, that the more we all share our stories and challenges, the more we are collectively improving. Sometimes, our industry impose on us it criteria of perfection. And when we are facing though moments, it feels that we are the only one struggling and we sometimes feeling ashamed and worthless.

As you will hear in each of the conversations, we all have those moments and they are part of the journey. We feel that there is bug of some sort, when in reality it become a feature in our story.

Sometimes you are able to get thru by yourself or by learning from others, like in this podcast. But sometimes, we need some more help. If that’s you case, feel free to reach out.

And when I though about this topic, the first person I wanted to talk to was Hester Vanacker.

Hester is one my former student and I have helped her design her path into our industry.

And from day1, what has always surprises me was her passion and dedication for sustainability. Every time she talked about it she was vibrant and full of energy.

That’s why I was not surprised when few months later, barely graduated, she announced that her first research paper on durability was published in a very well know scientific journal and that she was starting to work inside the Sustainability dept of one of the french luxury group.

Sustainability being such a new topic in our industry, the career path to work inside those kind of department are still not very clear. This is why I wanted to take this opportunity to chat with Hester and better understand what were steps she has taken so far and what advice she could provide for those who wants to do the same.

In this episode, you will learn about :

How Hester used her design background as a stepping stone to tackle sustainability issues

Her vision about sustainability and how she tries to infuse it in all level of the company

The story behind her first research paper on the dimension of durability

How to start building your expertise in sustainability from scratch

I also invite you to take a moment to look at the show notes, because Hester was kind enough to shared with us a large diversity of ressources, from documentaries, books, websites and research papers.

You can find her on Linkedin at Hester VANACKER or on Instagram @he_the_studio

And with no further ado, please enjoy this wide ranging conversation with Hester Vanacker

He is currently working at Celine as Product Data Analyst.

Prior to this job he has held positions at L’Oreal, in the luxury division and at Luxurynsight, the leading smart data platform on luxury brands, markets and consumers.

I highly recommend their podcast, they have great conversation with the leaders of our industry.

If you are like me, you probably wonder what is a Product Data Analyst.

I am not gonna spoil you Jiahao’s explanation, but let’s say it’s the type of job that didn’t exist when sustainability and supply chain were not the top priorities for luxury brands.

The other reason why i wanted to talk with Jiahao, it’s because he comes from China and has studied in France and Italy.

I wanted to understand his journey to land his position at Celine and what are his advice for other students coming from China with the desire to work in the fashion and luxury industry.

In this episode, you will learn about :

Jiahao’s journey from China to France and what are the cultural challanges that he had to overcome

What are the skills that you need to focus on, in order become a professional in the fashion industry

How to use your school projects during interviews can help you stand out

The difference between asking for advice and asking for insight

How to craft your own definition of success and find the right work environment

Why curiosity is the main skill if you want to work as a Data Analyst

The best practice to navigate multicultural environment and collaborate with different type of professionals

And of course, what are the missions of a Product Data Analyst.

As you will see, Jiahao is really thorough in his answer and provide a lot of details regarding each step of his journey.

What I really loved about him, it’s his vulnerability and his capacity to self reflect and evolve, even when it’s not confortable.

Those are the signs of someone who is going to become an outstanding professional.

She is a fashion professional working in PR for one the french fashion tech company: ARIANEE.

If you haven’t heard about them, I highly recommend to check it out an discover what are they doing regarding the new generation of customer relationship, using web 3 and NFT.

However today, my conversation with Christelle won’t be about her role over there.

Today we are going to talk about her first book, Corps Noirs, which could be translated in english as “Black Bodies”. Before I tell you all about it, let me tell you about its origin story. It all started by a simple question:

How many black women have been on the covers of fashion magazine in the last 15 years ?

And from that question, an entire journey started for Christelle.

First, it became her master thesis for the IFM where she graduated 3 year ago.

And with the support of friends and family, it became an entire book.

From that question, Christelle started to investigate the reality to be a black model in the fashion industry! the history, the stereotype, the prejudice and also the human cost.

Through this book, Christelle shine a light on, what we could call the dark of the industry.

However, this book goes way beyond that.

It’s first and foremost, the questions of a young professional trying to make sense of what she sees, discovers and experience. This book, it’s also really intimate, full of personal anecdotes and stories.

For me, it was an opportunity to ask myself more questions, to increase my awareness and to open my eyes on some of the realities of our industry.

In this episode, you will learn about :

The origin story of the book

How Christelle decided to think about this book as art book

What Aya Nakamura is telling us about the status quo of the fashion industry regarding black bodies

The reality of being a black model and the prejudice that they experience

The type of questions you could start asking yourself in order to make things evolve

The role of your family in the journey to find yourself

The importance to experiment and to learn from a large diversity of experience

How to network using generosity and vulnerability

Why allowing yourself to doubt and try things out is the best advice you could follow

This episode is dense, and full of gems.

My recommendation, take your time to listen to it and to self reflect.

And if you want to buy the book, only available in French, you can find it on Amazon, la Fnac and the major books stores in France, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Hey, I've got some exciting news for you before we dive into today's episode! 🎉

As a coach, I'm always looking to improve my skills and help my clients achieve their goals. That's why I've decided to pass the Level 1 of the International Coaching Federation, known as ACC for Associate Certified Coach. 💪

To obtain this certification, I'll need to complete at least 100 hours of coaching over the next 12 months. And I'm up for the challenge! In fact, I'm aiming to complete it before the end of 2023.

But here's where you come in.

To help me reach this goal and offer you some fantastic value, I'm offering 100 hours of coaching at a whopping 50% off my usual rate. That means you can get one-on-one coaching sessions with me for only €60 per hour! 😮

Whether you're facing personal or professional challenges, I'm here to help. I have experience in a wide range of topics, including self-confidence, imposter syndrome, communication and public speaking, as well as management and leadership.
For this episode, I invited a women who embodies the energy of the day. She is a women of the world, a free spirit who creates her own path and overcome the challenges of life with resilience, grit and creativity.

My conversation today is with Helena BAJAJ LARSEN, founder of her eponym brand and currently working at Iris Van Herpen’s creative studio, as a textile designer,

https://www.helenabajajlarsen.com/

As you will hear in the conversation Helena’s background is rich, diverse and multicultural. Raised in Paris, France, from an Indian mother and a Norwegian father, she decided to study fashion design at Parson’s in NYC and Fashion Management at Bocconi in Milan.

However, what is the most impressive about Helena, is that she launched in 2017, just after college, her own brand at the cross-road between high-fashion and textile art pieces. Giving her the opportunity to be covered by Vogue and win several international prices around the world.

And then, Covid-19 hit, sending all her plans and dreams through the window. That is the conversation we are going to have today. A conversation about resilience, self-discovery and how to start again a brand post-covid.

What we are also going to cover in this conversation, it’s the importance of tradition, heritage, and know-how especially among women and how to open-up our point of view regarding creativity outside of the major fashion capitals.

Hosted on Ausha.

I am very pleased to release this episode because in my opinion, the role of retail merchandising it’s one of the lesser known despite the fact that it seats at the heart of the business of fashion.

We can dream about cloth, accessories and glamour but at the end of the day, it’s the retail merchandiser that will decide what you gonna see at the store, in which quantity and in which color.

Isabela will guide us in the reality of our industry, explain to su what the role of retail merchandiser really is and how you can turn numbers into insight.

As you will see, Isabela, despite her young age, is a mature professional with a strong track record managing high volumes of data and numbers. What also make her story so interesting is that she didn’t start her career in fashion but in finance and by the end of this episode we end up doing a quick coaching session on how to define your next professional experience when you have different options.
