Season 3, Episode 13...Alex Jones Was Right

Back by popular demand, Micah and Joel have their cameras on and Rich is the mysterious voice from above! So, don't fret if you only see those two maniacs on your screen, Richard is there as well. Ralls had internet issues, so he wasn't able to make it. He and Kell are up to their eyeballs in family time as they just brought ole Buster Bigsby home from the calving barn! Ralls will be sure and update on all the fun of being a new parent next episode!

The boys jump right in with the fan favorite, Reach Around hour and bring everyone up to speed for the past week or so. Naturally, the thoughts wander a bit, but they eventually get around to talking about Apocalypse Now, the Entertainment Spotlight that Mr. Joel threw down the gauntlet on. If you haven't at least tried to watch it, get it on your list. The movie leads to a random discussion on some of the long standing classics in film!

The boys touch on the highs and lows of some recent presidents and hand out some recommended reading to shed some light on some of the views expressed!

This week, the Reachers are joined by special guest and honorary Reacher, Jake "Spoon" Seavert. The favorite long time caller and first time listener sits in to discuss his Entertainment Spotlight of Field of Dreams! He was the first to chime in during the previous Facebook Live, and was gracious enough to come on and lead a great discussion!

He stuck around and helped the gang dig into the Topic of the Week: Afghanistan and the recent happenings with US troop withdrawl. The one thing all the Reachers agreed on, there will be more to come, and this is far from over!

The word of the week, Abscond was of particular interest as it seemed uncommonly appropriate given the topics of discussion this week.

Season 2, Episode 10...I Am All That Is Man

For the second week in a row, the gang is short a Reacher, which is bound to happen with all the random stuff the gang get into. However, Rawley, Joel and Micah press ahead as Richard deals with the perils of sorting cows on the desert! The gang kick off the episode with the 3 way Reach Around and enjoy some laughs hearing about Joel's comedy club adventure and Ralls turning cows out to pasture. Joel brings up some great thoughts around technology and ranching and how to bring the two closer together while not destroying either. Micah does his best to fill in for Richard and break down the Entertainment Spotlight around Red Meat Republic by Joshua Spect, although it is long, definitely worth the effort! The gang circles back to talk about what car Joel should get again and Ralls brightens the day with his choice of the next Entertainment Spotlight...Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery. During the Pendleton Mixer and Cigar Intellectual Moment of the Week, the crew tackles a question by a listen in North Carolina about beverages at lunch during business. When they finally get around to Grindin the Gears some great debate kicks off around defunding the police and the lack of faith in the news. They finish off by exploring the virtues of Ranch Hand Bumpers during Buying Stuff and try and end on a high note with some of the best things of the week. FRX9...Joe Blankenship

Strap yourself in, turn off the ringer, pull your hat down and get ready for one of the most entertaining episodes of FRX to date. Pickup Man and Cowboy Cook, Joe Blankenship sits down with Micah to share some stories of growing up in the pickup man world, moving to Pendleton, Valentines Day and showing that Cowboys can cook! Joe got a late start in rodeo, not attending one until he was two weeks old and he quickly made an impact...with his head, on a car, when he was four, earning him the nickname of Knothead Copenhagen. Joe's first time as Pickup "Man" was at a ranch rodeo in Malta, MT when he was in the 4th grade, and that started it all. He has plied his craft all around the west, at some of the most prestigious events, and continues to do so today. Along his journey, he has met some true characters, and had some amazing horses and some of those stories come out in this episode; including a dandy poem about a rodeo legend! Joe has also started a Facebook Group with his son Boone called Cowboys Can Cook and shares how that come to be and teases us with Old Dad's biscuit recipe. If you don't know Joe, this is a great way to meet him. If you do, there is a good chance, you will hear a story you hadn't heard before! And whatever you do, don't leave him unattended when you head to dinner for Valentines day!

Season 2, Episode 5...It's Never About, What They Say It's About!

The guys are down a Reacher this week but press ahead and seem to all try and do their best to make up for the missing conversation of Ralls. Joel and Micah kick off this episode and are soon joined by Richard, as he senses a disturbance in the force and decides he better try and keep them on track! Both Joel and Micah ended up at the Dr. this week, Micah thinks his doctor is much cooler and way more legit than Joels. Joel is continuing to explore the stock market and has started getting some positions in call options, which everyone just shakes their head in like they understand what that is. Richard had a great road trip and gives some great insight into the Carbon Market and Agrivoltaics. The gang dive into a discussion on the current political climate, divide and concur, covid payments, the American "system", universities and the confederate flag. Truly fast paced and interesting discussion, and impressive for this group. Micah leads a brief review on the David Goggins book, Can't Hurt Me which is a phenomenal source of motivation. If you have read the book, you often find yourself saying, "Would Dave have given up?" when they hit a problem and keep on pushing through! Micah had word of the week as well, and took a suggested word from a loyal listener (Thank you Spoon) and discussed Honyonker with the gang. There is some excellent reader mail and feedback from our Bob O'Rourke stories and admiration of Bob. Richard has the next entertainment spotlight and choses the book Devolution by Max Brooks, so be prepared for some interesting discussion around that one for sure! Joel does a stellar Norm McDonald impression and the guys talk about some favorite comedians and being willing to ask for honest feedback even though you probably won't like it. The gang wrap up with the best part of their week, and Micah is stoked to sign up for Starlink internet and hopes Richard will do the same to cure his internet woes. The gang dive in and discuss some of the chaos and happenings that the world is experiencing right now, and how to try and make sense of all that is going on. With the recent release of the Netflix series entitled Wild, Wild Country old feelings were brought to the surface again and a new generation was exposed to the wild and western story of what happens to a small town when its not small or the locals town anymore. Some great discussion with Jim and Amy and the rest of the Reachers as we talk about what happened at the local level and what the movie overlooked. We also discuss some recent wildfire and how a community comes together in ways that most will only read about. And Amy reveals that she is one of two local cowgirls who have been chosen to participate in the 2022 Mongol Derby...the longest and toughest horse race in the world! We will be learning more about her and this race in the coming episodes! Rawley was off the grid at a dog trial, so we only talk a little trash about him. This is our favorite episode to date, and one that will surely make you think and hopefully smile.

For the last four years, community members from Adel, Oregon and Lake and Harney County have collaborated with a broad group of stakeholders to determine how, together, they could best assist the growing list of uses on the 437,120-acre Beaty Butte Herd Management Area (HMA). From these meetings came a ground-breaking commitment to create a first-of-its-kind, combined public and private wild horse program.

A cooperative agreement between BLM and the Beaty Butte Wild Horse Training Facility, a non-profit organization, was created in efforts to resolve over population of Wild Horses in the Beaty Butte area, which has been funded by a 5-year One Million Dollar BLM Grant.

Episode 2 features Richard and Micah pack the water in this episode and have some fun trying to stay on track! The gang kick off the episode with a beautiful two way reach around and bring everyone up to speed on the week. Richard got to spend some time with his dad and R3 weaning and then take the fam to a great movie and spend some time in Reno! Micah has been busy around the house and was recently elected to the EOU Alumni board, which made his best thing of the week!

The entertainment spotlight features the 1963 Paul Newman movie, Hud. Richard and Micah discuss why I can be so hard to watch. Micah get's them in the ditch by discussing how this movie and many others that have been important in his life were written by Larry McMurtry, and have been featured on Far Reaches as well! Richard does a fine job of keeping Micah focused but they still manage to wander through several other movies and writers and have some fun doing it!

Richard picks the next Entertainment Spotlight and decides the world needs to be reminded how impressive the MASH movie is. Released in 1970, it later spawned the long standing TV series as well, but stands strong on it's own! It will surely lead to some great conversation!

The gang then dives into the most recent examples of the Cancel Culture with the upheaval over the recent Dave Chappelle special on Netflix and the resignation of Raider's head coach Jon Gruden over leaked e mails. Then Micah clarifies what Let's Go Brandon means and the boys finish up by talking through some of the details on vaccination policies and how this is impacting the workforce. This week, the gang is down one Reacher, as Rawley was busy with cow stuff, but Richard, Joel and Micah pressed on. Richard and Micah had flashbacks to the old days of TV when you had to watch the show when it aired, and if you missed it...well, that was too damn bad. Also, how having "satellite" TV used to be cool because they were a reason for South Park parties. The gang dives into Red Dawn and how some of the symbolism is relevant during our current days of crazy. This leads to some evolution of the impact of the media and how everyone seems to say the exact same phrase on the "news". They touch on some sustainability and soil health concerns and big ag as well. Passionate and spirited conversation, which you are sure to enjoy!

For the second episode in a row, the gang is all here, and they are all able to stick around the entire episode. Richard pops in and out, but spends most of his time in the dark...kinda like always! Ralls is busy calving, Joel sent it on a snowmobile trip, Richard has been hauling hay, and Micah hung out with some friends! The gang is in fine form this episode and dive into a slurry of topics beginning with the Entertainment Spotlight which is the 80's classic, Iron Eagle. Everyone agrees that it was cooler when they were younger, but holds up ok. Joel makes a great point, that those 80's and 90's movies had young heroes, but hard to find that now. That leads into some conversation about the current status of the military and why they are in DC and interacting with civilians both in person and on social media. The Intellectual Moment of the Week focuses on history and learning from it, and how common sense, really isn't so common anymore! Ralls expands the vocabulary with the Word of the Week, Taut, and everyone tries to use it in a sentence. The gang kicks off the favorite new segment, also brought to you by B&K Auto, What Grinds my Gears, and touch on some current and interesting topics that they think you will enjoy as well. Joel has the next Entertainment Spotlight, and decides we should all listen to and review amazing 1975 Willie Nelson album, Red Headed Stranger.
