EP 39: How I'm Preparing to Grow my Business's while on a Guilt Free Maternity Leave

Traditionally being a business owner and 'maternity leave' don't really work too well together. When you're the boss most of the work load falls on you, and even if you do decide to 'switch off' for a couple of weeks to go on holiday, mentally you're still very much 'there' and IN your business.

It's like you panic that as soon as you step away everything you've built and all the momentum will just fall apart. And you just feel guilty all of the time. This doesn't lend itself to the 'blissful newborn baby bubble' everyone talks about.

In this episode I share everything I've put in place to be able to take some time away to fully embrace becoming a family of 4 and giving my body and mind grace to recover properly. I've strategically planned the lead up to this maternity leave so that I can take it without feeling guilty while also still growing my business's which I'm so passionate about and proud of.

I interview lots of people on this podcast and at the end I always ask how they define success. And I've been pleasantly surprised to hear that what often comes up is they say its about having that balance of work and life and actually just being happy.

And this has been a big transition for me personally as its a really different thought process to how I was a few years ago but I actually think that this is a general change in society and although the term 'hustle' has been thrown around a lot and still is used a lot, what that actually means and what that looks like I think has changed.

Lots of people ask how Im able to juggle being a mum and running a business and podcast, and aside from having a mega supportive and hands on parter, who I'm so grateful for, I am also obsessed with working and creating a business that actually creates MORE time for me and my family and doesn't take it away.

This is always the mission behind everything I do and teach because I think time is the most valuable thing we have.

So this is my personal experience and how I believe the hustle and grind has changed over the last year or so.

Ep 16: Do you ever feel totally Overwhelmed? Here's how to handle it!!

In this episode, I'm talking about how to handle overwhelm. And I have found myself very often, very overwhelmed because I tend to thrive doing a lot at the same time.

I was laying in bed last night talking to Kurt and I said 'Babe, Are you so glad that I'm not as mentally unstable as I was in the beginning?'. Because when I first started, bless him, literally once a month, I would have a full freakout meltdown. It was all too much. And I was doing so much work and then wasn't making any money. Financially, things were just crap. And I would just have these full like bratty meltdowns where everything just got on top of me.

And I wish I knew then how to handle those moments of overwhelm like I do now. But I've definitely learned these skills from years and years of just pushing it a bit too far sometimes, and getting to a point where I feel like I'm going to crumble.

So now you'll be happy to know I only have these moments probably once every six months or so. But the great thing is I've learned how to recognise it. And I've learned how to , just really make sense of my mind in that moment.

You know, when you're so overwhelmed, there's so much going on, you just feel like your brain is a blur. I'm really learning how to manage that.

So I wanted to share my little tips with you today if anyone is reading, and you also get moments of overwhelm. I definitely think in the early stages of entrepreneurship or building a business especially, it's the hardest and you're most prone to overwhelm because you're also probably, have a full time job. You also maybe have kids at home and you can't afford to get any help with your kids.
At this point when you're trying to start up your business and get it off the ground is normally when you have a million other things on your plate.

So I really hope that these things can help you.

I've always hated working for someone else. and to be honest I was a terrible employee.

I know this isn't the case for everyone, and if you love your job that's amazing, but it was always a massive driver for me to get out of my job and just work on my own business. I wanted to be self employed and just be doing my own thing and living my life on my terms.

But when I did finally leave my job and make my side hustle my full time gig....it didn't go exactly how I thought.

It actually took me a good two years to find my feet on my own and the learnings came thick and fast in that time.

Is it time to wake the F up?

In today's episode It's time to wake the F up! If you keep doing the same thing, you're going to keep getting the same thing. Or worse, it's just going to go on a downward spiral. So take some time today and really start putting some steps in place to make some changes.

Whether it's your health, whether it's your finances, whatever it is today, take back control, stop being in denial and start making some changes and just wake the fuck up because no one is coming to save you. You can only come and save yourself. And if you feel like you're also in that place where stuff is happening to you and you feel like a victim and you feel powerless to your situation, ask yourself: What part did I play in this?

EP 43: LIFE UPDATE: About to Give Birth and I'm Covid Positive!!...How I'm Really Feeling!

Sometimes when life throws you a curve ball you can have a little wobble and hop back to it, but sometimes, regardless of how much personal development you do and how much you pride yourself on your mental resilience it just completely knocks you out.

It's been one of those knock out weeks this week to be honest and I feel like we've just been totally blindsided.

As I write this, I'm 40 weeks pregnant and due to give birth today, and two days ago myself, partner Kurt and 20 month old little boy all tested positive for covid.

The timing couldn't be worse to be honest and certainly challenged me both emotionally and physically. But I wanted to share my experience in dealing with he curve ball in the hope it might help someone else too.

There are many things we can control in life and this is most certainly one I cannot.
