Marla is General Counsel at Cimplifi, working at the intersection of AI, legal, compliance and organisational transformation in high-stakes environments.

Emily recently transitioned from her role as VP of Growth at CodePath after six years helping scale the organisation nationally, supporting underrepresented computer science students across the US. German leads startup and innovation programs at Trimble, helping early-stage companies move from pilot to real-world deployment inside complex enterprise environments.

We explored the tension between building technology and actually scaling it inside industries layered with operational complexity, legacy systems and decades of lived expertise. So many technical founders become deeply focused on product, though enterprise environments demand something much bigger, trust, partnerships, adaptability and the ability to solve problems in the real world rather than simply building impressive technology.

Michelle is CEO of Metrum Research Group, a global biomedical modelling and simulation company. Despite leading a highly specialised scientific organisation, Michelle did not come from a scientific background herself, which made her journey into the CEO seat even more interesting.

We continued to discuss storytelling, perspective, creativity, pivoting and connection. Dmitry shared the evolution of Arbor, which originally began as a family storytelling platform designed to help people preserve the stories of parents and grandparents before they were lost. Over time, that evolved into a much larger idea around helping organisations transform long-form conversations into scalable narratives, across digital channels.

We spoke about the growing wave of polished AI-generated content online and how quickly sameness is starting to emerge. Yet, there also seems to be a growing hunger for real voice, lived perspective and communication that actually feels real.

I absolutely loved Dmitry’s “10-80-10” principle; humans shape the intention, AI accelerates execution, then humans return to refine the emotional truth, perspective and meaning behind the work. That framing felt important because it moves AI away from replacement and back toward fluid collaboration.

We also explored the idea that communication itself is changing, audiences no longer want perfectly polished corporate messaging. They want to hear from real people inside organisations, the founders, CEO’s and the people.

My fave part of our chat came right at the end, when Dmitry shared a story from the Musicians Hall of Fame in Nashville about producers pushing songs right to the edge of perfection, though never fully perfect, because the moment something becomes too polished, it loses its character. “Perfect becomes boring.”

After more than 25 years in leadership roles, including serving as a COO, Nechumah experienced two layoffs in two years. At the same time, she was navigating the deeper transitions of midlife: children leaving home, changing friendships, hormonal shifts, changing priorities and the realisation that the built-in community many women once relied on no longer naturally exists at this stage of life.

What emerged from that experience was Better Outside Together, an outdoor community designed to help women reconnect through movement, nature and real conversation.

Nechumah described this phase of life as the “midlife crescendo.” I related, given I am 48 and turning 49 years old this year, it is not a time of decline and certainly not the ending. Instead a crescendo, a moment to pause, where everything rises to the surface at once and asks us to pay attention.

We spoke about how many women quietly reach this chapter and realise they no longer know where they fit.

We continued to chat about what it really means to accept that we are not in control, not as a weakness, instead as a release. So much of the pressure we carry comes from trying to predict, protect and manage outcomes that are never guaranteed and yet, when you let go of that, you create space to actually think, respond and move with more clarity.

What stood out was how simply Ariyeh sees the world. From observing whether a business is truly creating value, to recognising that often the most powerful insights are right in front of us. Not everything needs to be overcomplicated, sometimes it is as clear as asking: does this make sense, does it serve people, is it real?

We also went deeper into safety and how people behave differently when they feel safe, whether that is in a country, a team or a business. When safety is present, people contribute, create and move forward. When it is not, they protect, withdraw and hold back and leadership plays a direct role in shaping that environment.

Ariyeh joined me from Israel, near Tel Aviv, while rockets were actively being heard in the distance. What stayed with me immediately was his reflection on presence. Even in the middle of war, people were still going to parks, still moving, still choosing life in the only moment they could actually control. And then, part way through our conversation, Ariyeh had to leave for a bomb shelter. That moment brought the whole episode into the very moment. We can talk about presence, becoming antifragile and control, and yet sometimes life asks us to live it in real time.

For me, this was about what it truly means to stay present when the world is uncertain, and how leadership begins with the way we relate to ourselves. In this part 2, John and I explored what becomes visible when you stop defending the old model and start designing for what is emerging.

What stayed with me most was John’s honesty about the invitation into the test. We went deep into the neuroscience of conflict, social and emotional intelligence, and why what most people call “resolution” is actually just settlement, it is not real resolution.
